The Problem
Kath Irvine’s website was an afterthought. The busy organic gardener is always on the go, teaching people how to grow food. The website played second fiddle to that because Kath didn’t really understand how it could support her goals. It was outdated and wouldn’t display properly on modern browsers. It didn’t reflect her style, passion or drive. The site needed an overhaul.
The main points of contact with her audience were a busy consult schedule, very successful workshops and a monthly newsletter. People adore that newsletter. But there were a couple of problems:
- there was no way record of how many people were seeing it,
- it was difficult to put together,
- none of the content made it on to the Edible Backyard website.
Kath was brimming with ideas and valuable information to serve her loyal following, but needed some direction and support to make it all happen.
How we solved it
Redesigning a site for someone with fantastic content is such a pleasure. We needed to make sure that a large amount of information was beautifully displayed and easy to find.
The site was redesigned on a strong and stable platform and Kath was taught how to use it.
We made a big process change where Kath would write blog posts and use newsletter provider MailChimp to send preview content out to the audience. They would then read the posts on the website. This way we could easily track subscribers, forwards, clicks and see what the most popular content was. No one could have guessed the popularity of the plum cake recipe.
